In 1863 during the Civil War, a woman named Jane A. Stickle decided to make a sampler quilt. 169 blocks, 52 triangles, 4 corner kites, and 5602 pieces later… she had a quilt that, to this day, still leaves quilters in awe.

The Dear Jane add-on for EQ8 software gives you all the blocks, the full quilt layout, and so much more!

Here are some ideas on how you can use the Dear Jane add-on to create your own quilt:

  • Use the classic Dear Jane quilt as it is!  You can even audition different fabrics to see how they would look in the quilt.

  • Start with a quilt variation! The Dear Jane add-on includes quilt variations that can serve as a starting point for your Dear Jane quilt. You can experiment with different settings and blocks to customize the design according to your preferences.

  • Design a Dear Jane quilt from scratch! If you want to let your creativity flow, you can use the blocks from the Dear Jane library in the software to design your own unique quilt. With the wide range of blocks available, you can come up with endless possibilities.

The Dear Jane Block Library in EQ8 includes all the blocks from the original Dear Jane quilt plus 330 more!

  • 169 center blocks of the original Dear Jane quilt, plus 211 center block variations that allow you to choose various piecing methods. This gives you the flexibility to customize your quilt's design while keeping the essence of the original.

  • Alternate blocks: including log cabins, flying geese, stars, and more.

  • 4 corner kites and 52 triangles that are essential for the Dear Jane quilt.

  • Blocks to create both simple and complex scalloped borders.

  • Quilting Designs: 169 for center blocks, 54 quilting designs for border triangles (52 plus one for the plain triangles and an additional option for TR2), 4 quilting designs for corner kites.

Once you have your quilt designed, print your own Dear Jane block patterns in any size, as blocks, quilting stencils, templates, foundation patterns, or rotary cutting charts. You can also print quilts, and Fabric Yardage Estimates.

As you work on your Dear Jane quilt project, it can be helpful and rewarding to track your progress along the way. Take photos of your sewn blocks and import them into the pre-designed EQ layout of the Dear Jane quilt. This may help visualize how your quilt is progressing!

Print certificates of completion for yourself or a friend! Choose from nine certificate designs, each available in three different styles to suit your preferences.

Read about Jane’s life and see where the quilt is now. Learn how Brenda Manges Papadakis (the author of the Dear Jane book) fell in love with the quilt that changed her life.

Special tips for each of the 225 blocks and a side-by-side of the sewn block and the EQ block are also included. Learn the reason behind the block names. Discover what size the block was in Jane’s original sampler quilt — surprise, not all were 4.5″!

Take a 12-Lesson Dear Jane class from Brenda as you make her small “In the Manner of Jane” wall hanging, while learning the techniques to construct all the sampler blocks.
