Have you ever wondered why so many people you know raised in traditional religions, say, Judaism or Catholicism, discard them in favor of more non-traditional alternatives?
Like Buddhism, perhaps, or New Age Paganism? Maybe some have moved their mojo to secular pursuits, like yoga, politics, fine art, meditation or CrossFit?
What causes the change?
The thing is, religion is a way for us to solve a big problem, the problem of being alive: How should we behave? Who made us? What matters? What’s good? What’s evil? What happens after we die? Is there more to it than just atoms and the void?
Eventually, we get tired of hearing the same answers to the problem from the same source i.e. the religion we were raised with. So we seek out “a fresh pair of eyes” to look at the problem with.
And yes, the same is true in business. Whatever business you’re in, you’re basically solving a problem, for you or somebody else. And it’s too easy to fall into the trap of always having the same answer, oblivious to how the world may have changed.
Indeed, the hardest thing in this life is finding ways to “see the world anew”, but that’s what makes it interesting, that’s what makes us successful, as business people, as human beings and yes, as religious believers on non-believers.
The Gapingvoid team is putting together a special eBook for Nursing Month (May) and we're welcoming our friends/fans to contribute to this eBook. The ask is for you to write a story about a meaningful experience you've had with a nurse in your life in the form of a letter to them. This is just one example of the many letters we’ve received, so far!
Dear Elizabeth, You are such a caring and compassionate nursing leader.
