This executive order is a huge deal and an incredible step forward. The fact that it made TERFs so angry is just a bonus.

The “Celebrating America” Inauguration Special Warmed Our Cold, Cynical Hearts

celebrating america

The Biden Harris inaugural committee smartly shined its light on us rather than themselves, a welcome reprieve from the megalomania of the preceding administration.

Daria’s Morgendorffers Are Good, Messy Parents

the morgendorffers are good parents daria

Jake and Helen are some of the most excellent television parents because the show allows them to be human beings with backstories that inform who they are today. Moments when the show allows them to be that way also serve to illuminate more about why Quinn and Daria are the way they are. Why they are a family.

The CW's reboot of Walker: Texas Ranger, starring Jared Padalecki, is focused on building up the titular hero at the expense of actually making him a hero we want to root for.

Pixar’s Soul Fails to Fully Understand What It Means to Be a Black Person in America

a scene in a barber shop from soul with a cat

When I watch Soul and see how much care and attention it took in getting the hair correct or the messy glory of the New York City subway system—which, Hera help me, I miss—it still doesn't feel like it fully gets the Blackness of its protagonist. And I don't mean just the blink-and-you'll-miss-it moments, but the immersive Blackness that comes from having Black writers on the project.
