Good morning, and welcome to the Thursday, October 26 edition of the Saints Insider newsletter. On Wednesday, the Saints sounded like a team that tried to make the most of its mini-break after last Thursday's loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Players and coaches spent much of the time, meeting and hashing out the issues that have plagued them throughout the first half of the season. Time will tell if they're successful. Here's the rundown of coverage from Wednesday... How 'Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda' applies todayWednesday marked the anniversary of Jim Mora's infamous "Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda" postgame rant from 1987. Columnist Rod Walker revisits the ex-Saints coach's epic meltdown and explains how Dennis Allen and this year's Saints team might be facing similar crossroads this season. 'He's got to slow down'Chris Olave did not speak to reporters on Wednesday but his head coach did. Dennis Allen said he met with the team's star receiver in the wake of his arrest for reckless operation of a vehicle on Monday night, and Olave knows he made a mistake. "We’re not going to make any more of it than that, other than for his sake, and for everybody’s sake, we want him to be safe, to keep himself and others safe," Allen said. "He’s just got to slow down.” Olave breaks silenceWhile Olave didn't speak to reporters, he did take to social media Tuesday in a since-deleted post to comment on the incident. On Tuesday, Olave posted "Damn crazy world" on X. Shortly after, he added, "They couldn't wait tear me down & bash me." Why the arrest? You might be wondering why Chris Olave was arrested on Monday night instead of just being given a speeding ticket? Staff writer Kasey Bubnash's story lays out what dictates and differentiates speeding and reckless driving according to Louisiana law and hopefully provides some answers to some of your questions about the incident. That's it for today. We'll have more coverage and analysis throughout the week as the Saints ramp up preparations for the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. Cheers, Jeff Duncan |
