Dear John,
Being selfless means creating the atmosphere, the processes, the training, the habits; really, everything about what lifts those you lead. It also stems from the foundation of understanding and facilitating the dreams and goals of your family, your friends, and those you lead.
Selfless definition: having little or no concern for oneself, especially with regard to fame, position, money, etc.; unselfish.
As Les Brown says, “Help others achieve their dreams and you will achieve yours.”
As a Coach Leader, this idea is very powerful. It's simply another way of phrasing the great Zig Ziglar quote ,“ You can have everything in life you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want.”
The Key
The key to these two powerful quotes is that your motive and your attitude towards those you lead must be selfless. These days being selfless is counterculture!
It has never been more politically correct to be selfish in all the things that you do. If your goal is to be an effective Mom, Dad, Friend, and Coach Leader and you approach it from a selfish mindset, then every idea or tactic that you try will be of no use to you, and in fact will make things worse.
Why?
Because people know when they are being used or manipulated, versus served and supported. Selflessness begins by serving and supporting your team, your family and your friends.
Choose to be selfless and you Choose To Win!
