Takeaways from the FY 2021 SNF final payment rule

As part of the 2021 payment rule, CMS has announced a market basket increase of 2.2% to SNFs. CMS anticipates that this increase will result in approximately $750 million in payments to SNFs compared to FY 2020. “We had originally thought that this was going to be a 2.3% payment increase, but when the final rule was published it was recalculated to 2.2%,” explains Reta Underwood, C-NM, RAC-CT, Medicare specialist and president of Consultants for Long-Term Care.
