…over 300 and increasing. The past two years have been difficult as our community saw the loss of both West Main Mission and Room In The Inn homeless shelter. These losses have come at a time when homelessness in our community is at its highest. In the past four years, we have gone from 100 to over 300 homeless in Murfreesboro. This spring and summer have been the busiest -- working with clients, distributing water and looking at properties. The Board of Directors and I urge you to join us in praying for a breakthrough to find shelter soon. Our community has gone long enough without a place to meet the needs of those who are hurting. August temperatures have been lower than usual, bringing much- needed relief to our homeless friends. Thankfully, our water supply is holding steady. To all of you who are helping with this project, thank you. We are excited to announce an upcoming fundraising event aimed at helping those in need of food, clothing and shelter. Murfreesboro Rescue Mission, along with Amelia's Closet and Second Harvest Foodbank, will host the our first Charity Chopped in the 'Boro event. Mayor Shane McFarland will represent the Mission as chef, with Chef Alex Belew assisting him as sous chef. Local celebrity Lisa Spencer will be on hand to help judge the competition. Please join us for this event Thursday, September 14, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at CJ's on Northfield Boulevard. Tickets may be purchased for $75. For more information, call Shannon Wheeler at 615-417-6640, or visit www.charitychopped.com. Sincerest thanks, Ed Grimes Executive Director |
