The IPPS final rule, anticipated for release in August, will introduce significant changes to the ICD-10-CM code set and new complication or comorbidity (CC)/major complication or comorbidity (MCC) designations.

Coders must familiarize themselves with 2020 code updates, and their impact on code sequencing and payment, before these changes go into effect on October 1.
