Princess Weekes, Assistant Editor of The Mary Sue, will take a Black Widow dive into the history of female comic book/superhero movies starting with Jane Fonda's Barbarella before going into Wonder Woman and our hopes with Captain Marvel. The show will explore the common tropes in these films through a feminist, pop culture lens as well as why it took so long to get these movies done and done right. Plus representation issues (why is Storm still not done right guys?). As always, the show is guaranteed to bring a fresh perspective and a few side splitting laughs while promoting a healthy camaraderie among attendees.

Venom Will Be Rated PG-13, Making Us Ask Again—Who Is This Movie For?

Venom
Despite all its posturing and attempts to seem badass and hardcore, Venom has fallen into the trap of wanting to be part of a larger cinematic universe and is going to be rated PG-13 instead of R.

A 9-Year-Old Australian Girl Is Being Attacked by Politicians for Refusing to Sing the National Anthem

The attacks on people peacefully protesting the national anthem aren't limited to NFL players, or even to the United States. A nine-year-old Australian girl named Harper Nielsen has become a target of hate after she refused to stand and sing the country's anthem at school. The reason for her protest is that she says the song is disrespectful to indigenous Australians. And after looking at the lyrics, which I had never read before, it's hard to disagree.

The Ever-Evolving Feminism of Cinderella

four versions of Cinderella: Disney animated, Ever After, Broadway, Disney Live Action
Cinderella can be one of the most feminist, tenacious, and kind female characters I know. She’s a princess who saves herself just as much as any other one with a sword or daring journey. The way her story is told through modern adaptations shows the evolution of both the story and evolving ideas about feminism and representation.
