Legislation & Regulation
The Federal Reserve left the federal funds rate unchanged at the conclusion of a policy meeting Wednesday, and Chair Jerome Powell has suggested cuts might not come at the March meeting. "It's a highly consequential decision to start the process" of lowering interest rates, "and we want to get that right," Powell says. "We've made a lot of progress on inflation. We just want to make sure that we do get the job done in a sustainable way." Markets fell in response to the news, with the S&P 500, the Nasdaq composite and the Dow Jones Industrial Average ending the day down.
