My mother gave me a child's cookbook for my eighth birthday. I've been in love with cooking and baking since then.
I love my job. I'm a food explorer. And there is always something new to explore.
Sure I love the food, the good things I get to try. Even more, I love the discovery--a new recipe or a better way to do something. I love the conveniences--like electric mixers--that we didn't have when I was a child. (I remember my mother teaching me how to beat the cake batter--up and over, not round and round--and do it 200 times.) I love the fresh foods that are available year around.
We live in a wonderful country in a wonderful age.
Three years ago, I listed seven breakthroughs that I love, breakthroughs that have changed the way we bake and the foods that we make. I reviewed the list this week. I still love all seven breakthroughs although some now seem more significant than others. Still, I think it's a list worth sharing.
