Water quality: for a regulatory change at European level

For more than twenty years, Surfrider Foundation Europe has been developing expertise on bathing water quality. To safeguard the health of all users, bathers and water sports enthusiasts, the association has been carrying out regular health and environmental monitoring for about fifteen years before focusing solely on areas at high risk of pollution.

Toxic microalgae: 10 years of monitoring

Surfrider Europe has been regularly monitoring a special breed of toxic microalgae, Ostrepsis ovata, for 10 summer seasons. The data generated is an important factor in determining bathing water quality in the Mediterranean. This summer, Surfrider tested out a new way to monitorthis dangerous occurence.

Chapters Days

Chapters Days 2019

Another great gathering for the 2019 Chapter Days! This year the meeting was held in Sofia, Bulgaria, and was attended by 28 volunteer chapters from 8 countries! The agenda for this annual event combines workshops, presentations, meetings, and exchanges that strengthen the community, inspire innovations, and support local projects. SOS bretignolles

Strong mobilization against the marina in Bretignolles

On October 9th, 2019, 2500 people came together at Plage de la Normandelière to protest the construction of a port in the town of Bretignolles-Sur-Mer and save the coast!For the past 10 years, Surfrider Europe has been actively fighting against the creation and development of a port that would destroy the dunes and seabed, and harm marine flora, fauna and coastal ecosystems. In the last months, despite proven environmental risks and community opposition, public authorities approved the project. So we decided to send a strong message: S.O.S!
