March saw the launch of the 27th Ocean Initiatives campaign: what is your reason to act?
Ocean Initiatives: what about you, what is your reason? “Individually we all have a reason for taking action. Together we are fighting for the protection of the ocean”. Such is the leitmotif for the 27th edition of Ocean Initiatives, which will be launched on Saturday March 20, 2021. After a year when the sanitary crisis put a brake on grassroots mobilization, Surfrider Europe is back, stronger than ever, with a new campaign reminding people how accessible the program is and how important it is to take action in favour of the marine environment. |

Green Marine Europe label: applications are open The Green Marine Europe label was created in 2020 as the result of a partnership between Surfrider Europe and the Green Marine, and is a real guarantee of ecological performance for shipowners committed to a proactive environmental policy. The first six laureates were awarded the label last October, and applications for the label can once again be filed until March 31. The opportunity to apply for the label is open to any shipowner keen to reduce the impact of maritime transport on the ocean.

Introduction of a new Chapter in Germany Very recently a new chapter was introduced into the Surfrider Foundation Europe community. It is in the city of Dresden that a small group of inhabitants decided to get together with the aim of protecting the Ocean. This city is one of the greenest in Europe and has the 8th biggest river of the Continent, the Elbe, flowing through it. Dresden will now be able to take action as a Chapter member of the Surfrider community. The first action for the volunteers was individual trash removals, and there's so much more to be done ! |

Paddleboards for Ocean initiatives on the river banks of Vendée Mid-march, Volunteers of Chapter Vendée took part in a trash removal of the river banks in the Sables d'Olonne with other locally-based organisations. They grabbed their paddleboards along with all the needed trash collecting material and put on their wetsuits to be as efficient as possible. In the end, the equivalent of two fully-packed trailers was removed from the river bank (of one 28 bags of 100 liter each and one with tyres, old scooters, scrap...). |
