A Colorado woman who was missing for four years was found dead and stuffed inside a manhole |
Eighty-two-year-old Sylvia Frens was reported missing by her daughter back in May 2018. Police discovered her remains stuffed inside a trash bag in a manhole after a stench was found coming from the bedroom of her home, which was mostly covered in a brown stain. Her son, 54-year-old Richard Vandervelde, was living with her at the time of her disappearance. He has now been charged with first-degree murder, tampering with a deceased human body, fraud identity theft, mother vehicle theft and abuse of a corpse. Vandervelde, who had initially lied about his identify during a traffic stop in June 2018, had also been in possession of his mother’s car. Here is what he had previously claimed happened to Frens when he was first questioned about his mother’s whereabouts, and what police discovered when they finally found her remains. |
