 BY DOUG GRAHAM | Deputy Metro Editor East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff Sid Gautreaux says much of the criminal violence in the parish can be traced to gang members. The Sheriff's Office is taking a new step to combat that problem with the creation of the Gang Intelligence and Enforcement Unit. The group will target drug dealers, gang members and others involved in violent crime, the sheriff said.
On Aug. 22, 2020, Jace Orion Boyd shot and killed Danny Buckley outside the Trader Joe’s on Perkins Road. He claimed the shooting was self-defense. But on Thursday, a jury found Boyd guilty of manslaughter.
