Sherwin-Williams: Sherwin-Williams’ plans to centralize its research and development operations in suburban Brecksville involve a large building that spreads out like fingers on a hand, with plenty of room for employees to interact, Eric Heisig reports. The 600,000-square-foot facility – about the size of four large Walmarts – will sit in the middle of a 119-acre site off Interstate 77 that provides room to grow while also guaranteeing large swaths of green space are preserved.
Kenneth Johnson: Cleveland Councilman Kenneth Johnson asserted Wednesday that he submitted years of accurate city reimbursement reports for work in his ward, paying a longtime ally in cash to cut grass and maintain abandoned lots. Johnson, 75, took the witness stand at the close of his weeklong corruption trial before Judge John Adams and a jury. Johnson and his longtime aide, Garnell Jamison, 63, are accused of conspiracy, tax violations and theft-related offenses involving Johnson’s dealings, John Caniglia reports.
Diversion center: Cuyahoga County is considering three possible sites as the future home of a permanent diversion center, where mentally ill or addicted people could receive treatment instead of jail time. Courtney Astolfi reports the choices are the juvenile court complex on East 22nd Street in Cleveland, the Metzenbaum Center on Community College Avenue in Cleveland, and a recently-vacated Board of Developmental Disabilities property on Euclid Avenue in East Cleveland.
Mask recommendations: Although Gov. Mike DeWine is not interested in imposing new mask mandates at this point, 23 of Ohio’s 88 counties have case and testing rates high enough that the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say vaccinated people should wear face coverings indoors. Laura Hancock reports most of the counties are rural. Cleveland recycling: By year’s end, Cleveland hopes to relaunch its curbside recycling program, idled since spring 2020. Robert Higgs reports Mayor Frank Jackson’s administration has started accepting signups from people who want to opt in for the new program.

Jim Jordan: Champaign County GOP Rep. Jim Jordan said Tuesday he spoke with then-President Donald Trump on the day that rampaging Trump supporters invaded the U.S. Capitol. Sabrina Eaton reports the admission boosts the chance that Jordan will be asked to testify before a newly established House of Representatives subcommittee probing the riot.
Vaccine incentives: The Ohio Department of Administrative Services, which administers human resources for state employees, announced Wednesday evening that state workers who have received a coronavirus vaccine are now eligible for a $100 incentive, and their vaccinated spouses can get a $25 incentive, Laura Hancock reports.
Police officer indicted: A Lorain County grand jury handed up an indictment Monday against a 25-year-old North Olmsted police officer accused of sexual misconduct, police and court records confirmed. Nicklas Gorbulja of LaGrange is charged in a direct indictment with two counts of illegal use of minor or impaired person in nudity-oriented material or performance, Kaylee Remington reports.

Dr. Michael Roizen, 75, emeritus chief wellness officer at the Cleveland Clinic, and Al Ratner, 93, former CEO and chairman of Forest City Enterprises, teamed up on a new book, “The Great Age Reboot: Cracking the Longevity Code to Be Younger Today and Even Younger Tomorrow," which explains the promising medical breakthroughs that could prolong life. UH donations: OfficeMax CEO Michael Feuer and his wife, Ellen, are giving $2 million to University Hospitals to spur innovations in health care. Evan MacDonald reports the idea behind the fund is to cut out some of the red tape involved with getting a good idea off the ground.
Stormy weather: The National Weather Service said that residents of Northeast Ohio can expect thunderstorms, potentially damaging wind and chances of hail across the region from early-to-late this morning, Kaylee Remington reports. The Cleveland area will get at least 1 to 1.5 inches of rain and winds up to 60 mph.
