Sheryl Sandberg's 'Option B'

• An A+ option B. Sheryl Sandberg's new book, Option B: Facing Adversity, Building Resilience, and Finding Joy, went on sale—and shot to the top of the Amazon bestseller list—yesterday. The launch and surrounding events prompted a number of interesting pieces. Here's a sampling of what caught my eye:

While the book centers on Sandberg's story of facing the unexpected death of her husband, Backchannel's Jessi Hempel's writes that, "Even more than Option B is a self-help tome, it's a management book. Sandberg shows how a boss can lift a whole organization by admitting she (or he) needs help." It has the potential to revolutionize the way we work, dismantling the wall many still try to erect between our "work self" and our "real self," and, as Hempel puts it, revealing that "your vulnerabilities, when shared, are your most effective tools for working with other people."

Fortune's Valentina Zarya focuses on a different aspect of the book: Its insight into how we can best support the people in our lives who are confronted by grief (in other words, everyone, at one time or anther). Sandberg provides simple, logical guidelines that can help stop us from saying and doing the wrong thing—or worse yet, nothing.

Appearing at the 92nd Street Y this weekend, where Sandberg and co-author Adam Grant were interviewed by Katie Couric, the Facebook COO talked about the way in which Couric—another very public widow, whose first husband died 1998—helped her through her grief. "You jumped in and kept telling me it would get better," she told the Yahoo anchor. "And you were more credible because you had been through it."

• What's in a name? Discount retailer Stein Mart is selling Ivanka Trump apparel that has been relabeled as Adrienne Vittadini Studio. G-III, the company that holds a licensing agreement to make and distribute Ivanka Trump apparel, acknowledges that it sold the relabelled merchandise to Stein Mart without the knowledge of the Ivanka Trump brand. • She's a star. NASA astronaut Peggy Whitson, 57, added another feat to her already record-breaking career on Monday when she became the U.S. astronaut with the most cumulative time in space. She broke the record by logging 534 days, two hours, and 49 minutes (and counting) away from Earth. Fortune

• All about 8. Store No 8, Walmart's new Silicon Valley-based tech incubator, has announced that Rent the Runway co-founder Jennifer Fleiss will lead its first effort, a stealth operation called Code 8, which will develop "high personalised, one-to-one shopping experiences." Business of Fashion

MOVERS AND SHAKERS: Dana Anderson is joining MediaLink as CMO. Previously, she held the same job at Mondelez International. Heather Nauert has been hired by the State Department to be its spokeswoman.

• Sharing a byline. Ivanka Trump and World Bank president Jim Yong Kim penned an op-ed for the Financial Times, urging the global community to step up the economic empowerment of women. FT

• Parsing pay. When IBM shareholders gather today, they'll be asked to sign off on a $33 million pay package for CEO Ginni Rommety. But according to this Bloomberg story, that figure could understate her actual compensation by 50% or more because of the way IBM values the chief's stock options. Bloomberg

• Meet the new guard. Politico's New Guard list looks at up-and-coming operatives "emerging on the front lines of politics, policy and power." Among the women to make the cut: National Republican Senatorial Committee comms director Katie Martin, DNC comms director Xochitl Hinojosa, and New York Times D.C. photographer Gabriella Demczuk.
