Shocking and Hateful Behavior | Over the past two weeks, I’ve watched some clips of scenes I struggled to believe took place in America. In one, students at Harvard surround a Jewish man, shouting “Shame! Shame!” In another, Jewish students barricade themselves in a classroom, hiding from an angry mob outside. I’ve seen people tearing down posters of kidnapped Israelis. And I’ve read reports of anti-Muslim actions too, most tragically, of a man who killed a young Muslim boy. These despicable incidents leave me confused and angry. I’m not the only one. This week Russell Moore warns that wherever we fall on the current situation in the Middle East, “we do not love our ‘side’ if we let it slide into movements that history and our consciences show lead to atrocities.” I’m hoping many people heed his warning. Read: “Campus Antisemitism and the Lessons of a Nazi-Occupied Church.” In the midst of so much hostility, it can be difficult to reach out to people of other faiths, but it’s essential that we do so. Our resource on the topic is a good place to start. Learn how to cross religious barriers and communicate the gospel in a sensitive but effective way. |
