Short-term rental rules mulled in Baton Rouge

A move to tighten restrictions on short-term rentals in East Baton Rouge Parish — a proposal that includes levying special taxes on operators — has gotten more snubs than praise. Terry Jones details the rules being considered and the public's reaction to them in this piece. 


Could trooper's death have been prevented? 

State Police knew Trooper August McKay struggled with a mental crisis when they ordered a search of his home but didn't take basic steps that could have prevented his death from a struggle that ensued over his department-issued gun. That's according to a lawsuit filed by his family, which highlights what one expert called the under-discussed psychiatric pressures faced by law enforcement. Here's the story from James Finn.
