Shot to death on I-10. What's the crime plan?

By Bob Warren

Asking 'Why?': Whitney Wilson’s loved ones are left asking a question this week that might never be answered: Who fatally shot her as she drove on I-10 in New Orleans east with her daughter. And why?

Crime seems to be on everyone's mind these days. On Thursday, NOPD Superintendent Shaun Ferguson faced several hours of questions from the New Orleans City Council who want to know if the department has a crime-fighting plan.

Money for the coast: The state wants to spend almost $1.3 billion on hurricane protection and coastal restoration efforts in 2023. The Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority’s plan would be the most ever spent in a single year.

Mystery at the circle: There's a mysterious object, wrapped in plastic, at the circle formerly known as Lee. Doug MacCash, naturally, checked it out.

It's the economy: We hosted a state economic summit this morning. If you missed it, you can check out the replay here.

Ruh-roh: Finally, here's a headline some folks might find distressing: "New Orleans Jameson supply dries up less than six weeks before Mardi Gras." And it's not just Jameson, some bar keeps say. Check out this dispatch from Gambit.

Hope you enjoyed Lunch Line today. Thanks for taking a break with us.
