The backlash against Google's FLoC initiative continues. Yesterday, WordPress joined the party (if you want to call it that).

Multiple sources reported on a proposal raised in WordPress Core to treat FLoC like a "security concern" by default. This block is planned for WordPress 5.8, but WordPress is requesting feedback before implementing the change.

FLoC has faced a ton of backlash, especially as folks become more aware (and concerned) about protecting their privacy online. I also wonder if there are long-term rammifications on IT, as well.

The backlash against Google's Federated Learning of Cohorts (FLoC) has continued, with a proposal raised in WordPress Core to block the controversial alternative identifier to third-party cookies by default. In order to get the block out to current users, WordPress has floated that FLoC be treated as a security problem and backported, rather than waiting until the next major release in July.

Chrome Story and Chrome Unboxed have spotted a commit in the Chromium Gerrit, titled "[Launcher] Add chrome flag for launcher categorical search." Google hasn't added any code to its development platform, and activating this categorical search flag (chrome://flags/#categorical-search) in the latest under-development version of Chrome OS doesn't do anything yet. But given the title, we can speculate just a little bit.
Microsoft is reportedly planning to reinvigorate the Store app on Windows 10 with a new design and policy changes that make the platform more appealing for both end-users and developers. The information comes from Zac Bowden of Windows Central, citing sources familiar with the matter.

SAAS update
As previously announced, Google is replacing classic Sites with new Sites. All Google Workspace customers will have until the end of 2021 to complete this transition. Note that the timeline for this transition varies for users with personal Google accounts — see the “Getting Started” section below for more details.
