Good morning,

Wednesday will be a few degrees warmer with highs in the mid to upper 80s south with some places near 90 in southwest Minnesota. Northeast Minnesota will be cooler, in the 70s. Get the latest on Updraft.

Today was the first day of school for most Minnesota districts. MPR News had photographers at Richfield High School and Prior Lake High School.
Drought revives ideas to shift water from Mississippi to help West
Proposals to send water from the Midwest to the southwestern U.S. — where an ongoing drought and population growth have created a looming water crisis — face significant environmental, legal and political obstacles.
 
What else we're watching:
The new COVID booster could be the last you'll need for a year, federal officials say. Throughout the pandemic, SARS-CoV-2 has been incredibly unpredictable and has been evolving much faster than anyone expected, so officials say they will continue to monitor the virus closely and they are ready to reprogram the vaccines again if necessary. 

Uvalde students go back to school for 1st time since attack. Children began arriving at Uvalde Elementary before dawn, walking through newly installed 8-foot (2.4-meter) metal fencing that surrounds the campus and past a state trooper standing guard outside an entrance.

It's not too late for a beautiful, tasty fall garden. Whether you love it or hate it, meteorological fall is happening. That means it’s far too late to get started with a garden, right? Meg Cowden thinks it’s never too late to start your own garden. She spoke with host Cathy Wurzer on Tuesday.
