As much as I love living in Utah, I have always wanted to live by the seaside. I love rainstorms — even if the thunder and lightning scare me a little. I served four months of my mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in a coastal province in the north of Spain where it was constantly raining, and I grew to really love it — especially how picturesque it makes the landscape right after a storm.
Naturally, I love days like today where we’re expecting a ton of rain! ☔️
Tell me: Do you have any good photos of the recent weather? Send them in and I’ll share them in Utah today throughout next week.
By the way: We got some great Wordle starter words last week! Here’s what you shared:
Clark M. said, “My favorite word is "SOARE" — three vowels and two commonly used consonants. On Secordle, I use SOARE, PITHY and FLUNK to get all of the vowels with no overlap.”
Pam W. gave a great starting answer, which made me laugh, but I don’t think I can publish the word here. But to give you a hint, it’s part of the name of this terrifying reptile. She said, “It completes the search for the vowels that are available in the alphabet and it also has the letter H which is often associated with CH, PH, RH, SH, TH and WH words. Also the N and R are frequently used letters of the alphabet.”
Perspective: Did you see what they said after the stock market crash in 1929?
So … are we in a recession or not? Pundits, politicians and government officials have debated the economy one way or the other, leaving the average American unsure of where we stand financially. Jay Evensen believes we should take a warning from the pages of the Nov. 15, 1929, issue of The New York Times (and especially what happened after that fateful issue) and not get comfortable quite yet.
A record 63% of Americans think that it’s time to ditch the Electoral College and elect the president by popular vote instead, according to Pew Research. The perspective on whether or not the country should adopt a popular vote model has come up against significant debate. Pew found that age and political affiliation play a large role in whether or not someone believes we should change the system.
What about you — do you think we should switch to a popular vote, or do you think it’s important to stick with the Electoral College?
