With the 2024 president election drawing near, heated campaigns will inevitably reignite election policy debates throughout not only the western United States, but the entire country.
Whether or not the debate is centered on ranked choice voting or vote-by-mail policies, the West is full of various different viewpoints and perspectives. And, despite their geographical proximity, some of the states in the West have drastically different approaches to election policy.
"The variety of experiences and viewpoints on elections in Western states leave policy approaches to elections as varied as Westerners themselves," Derek Monson, vice president of policy for Sutherland Institute, writes in this opinion piece that compares Utah's election and voting policies to other states in the West.
