Dear Skimm'rs,
We founded theSkimm with a belief that we could make it easier to navigate what’s going on in the world. Six years later, theSkimm continues to be a trusted source of information for our community of over 7 million.
theSkimm launched in the months leading up to the 2012 election. With no money and a tiny audience, we road tripped across the country to host debate ‘parties’ and encourage people to vote.
Today, we remain focused on empowering our community to feel confident in their decisions, especially when it comes to exercising their right to vote.
While a lot has changed, one important fact hasn’t...the percentage of people that actually vote. In the 2014 midterms, only around 42% of eligible Americans showed up to vote.
In our own poll from October 2018 in partnership with SurveyMonkey, we learned that while 73% of millennial women were dissatisfied with the direction of the country, only 45% are absolutely certain they’ll show up and vote – it didn’t make sense to us. We wanted to help change those stats but knew that we could not do it alone. Cue Round 2 of our non-partisan No Excuses campaign.
We’d like for this to be the year we change expectations. And we’re already seeing results. Because of you.
100,000 of you have already committed to vote tomorrow. 45,000 of you joined our Skimm Squad to make sure that people were prepared and ready to vote in the months leading up to the election.
Politicians are elected to represent YOU. No matter your party affiliation, candidate preference or where you come down on issues, YOU have the power.
They say millennials won't vote. We say they're wrong.
Here’s to changing expectations. Here’s to voting.

PS: If you have already voted, thank you. Tell us here. We want to celebrate those who made No Excuses and showed up.
