NATIONAL: The seventh annual Vulture Festival will take place virtually from Oct. 26-30. The pop culture event will feature panels, screenings, and cast reunions, with appearances by the likes of Whoopi Goldberg, Henry Winkler, Rachel Bloom, plus the casts of New Girl, The Baby-Sitters Club, and more. The Petty estate announced that the Tom Petty Birthday Bash will take place virtually Oct. 23 with five hours of performances, testimonials, and tributes to the American songwriter from fans including Stevie Nicks, Post Malone, and the Foo Fighters. The event aims to raise awareness for various nonprofits including Save Our Stages (NIVA), an organization fighting to preserve independent music venues during COVID-19. LOS ANGELES: VidCon, the world's largest online video and digital creators conference, has debuted a rebrand that includes a new hybrid event strategy. VidCon Now, the conference's popular virtual event series that drew 1 million attendees this summer, will now be a year-round event returning Oct. 27. Additionally, VidCon plans to include digital ticketing options for its in-person event, taking place in Anaheim, Calif., next summer. MIRAMAR BEACH, FLA: The Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort plans to open Hotel Effie Sandestin Feb. 1, 2021. The hotel, located between the Gulf of Mexico and Choctawhatchee Bay, will feature 250 guest rooms, plus 20,000 square feet of meeting space including a 13,000-square-foot ballroom. There will also be a spa, a fitness facility, and a rooftop pool. MONTEREY, CALIF: The Monterey County Convention and Visitors Bureau has hired Teresa Savage as the new vice president of business development. Previously the vice president of sales for Visit Napa Valley, Savage has more than 20 years of experience.
