Shrimpers caught in turbulent times

“We’re a dying breed — they always say we’re the last generation because there’s no one here to help us,” says Holden Fabre, 26, a fifth-generation Louisiana shrimper.

Louisiana shrimpers for decades have decried steadily declining prices at docks, despite high retail prices and higher costs of gas and supplies. They have even turned to lawmakers for legislation to ease their troubles.

But some shrimpers say years of promises have left them skeptical the situation will ever change.


Family ties can run deep among firefighters. Carrying on the tradition, Adam Kimble is a third-generation member of the Baton Rouge Fire Department.
