| Extraordinary challenges require unconventional responses. Given the growing insecurity caused by the corona virus crisis, an Unconditional Basic Income is what all Europeans need right now. From one day to the next, all over Europe, people are losing their sources of income and don’t know where to turn. Insecurity is everywhere and can be sensed in every conversation. Millions already felt insecure with insecure incomes and high debt, but now this has spread to the whole population. Despite the generous amounts some EU countries are giving to those with regular jobs and businesses, other countries will not have the means for this. Even within the richer nations, many people will fall through the cracks in their systems. That is why European leaders have to step up and say without delay: We will help! Since the last major crisis in 2008, the EU has pumped trillions of Euros into the failing financial sector. Now it's time to support the people. Unconditional Basic Income Europe has started a petition to demand that European leaders create an EU-led financial instrument to support all EU Member States in the quick introduction of an Unconditional Basic Income as an emergency measure.
