DAILY: TreasuryONE Market Update US bond yields continued to fall at the longer end of the curve, as markets priced in a 30% chance of the Fed cutting rates by March 2024. Although the DXY Index fell as the dollar slipped against major currencies, the rand wasn't a beneficiary of this.
Rand traders are focused on tomorrow's CPI data and Thursday's MPC interest rate decision, with the rand trading at R18.28 this morning.
What does help us is an increase in commodity prices, with gold close to the key level of $2,000 an ounce. PGMs also had a strong day yesterday. Brent Crude continues to seesaw ahead of the OPEC+ meeting on the weekend, with demand concerns continuing to outweigh supply considerations as oil trades at $82 this morning.
To cap off the year, TreasuryONE is hosting a webinar on Tuesday, 5th December at midday. Attendance is free, but you must register here. Get it in your calendar nice and early! |

Sirius taps the market for capital Sirius Real Estate has bucked the recent trend of property funds sitting on their hands. Capital raises are rare these days, despite being as common as a Joburg pothole several years ago. The reason for this is that most property funds are trading at a deep discount to net asset value (NAV) per share, so investors want funds to sell properties and return the capital rather than buy more properties.
With Sirius trading at approximately NAV, it can raise capital without causing a material dilution of value. An accelerated bookbuild accompanied the release of results yesterday and I look forward to seeing how it played out. In Ghost Bites this morning, you can learn more about how this works.
It was an exceptionally busy day of news yesterday, which included Astral Foods reporting its first loss in the 23-year history of the group. Also look out for Barloworld, Brikor, FirstRand, Naspers + Prosus (with a rather imaginative use of the term "accelerated profitability"), Netcare, Omnia, PPC and Stefanutti Stocks. Of course, there's an assortment of Little Bites as well.
All of this is available in Ghost Bites at this link>>> |
