The Benefits of Knowledge Sharing in Cambodia

Skateistan Johannesburg Community Educator, Vuyo, recently travelled with two members of staff from our Berlin office to Cambodia, to participate in training and knowledge sharing between teams. Student Profile: Thabile's Story

Thabilie*

Thabile* is 9 years old and lives in New Doornfontein, Johannesburg, with her parents and little sister. She moved recently from another area of the city and she didn't know anyone in her area. On her first few visits to Skateistan, Thabile felt intimidated and thought she’d be sent home because she wasn’t as good as the other kids yet. She didn’t know how to interact with others and didn’t know how to make friends. After participating in Skateistan programs, Thabile has built a network of friends and has really worked on her social skills.

Old Skate Decks and New Opportunities

Outdoor Classroom

Through a new, creative partnership with Tone for Change, Skateistan provided old but salvaged skateboard decks to make an incredible guitar pedal. 100% of the proceeds will benefit Skateistan programming. These pedals are getting mad hype within the music and skateboarding community, and we couldn’t be happier to see people so excited. We were especially stoked on the idea because it's not the first time old skate gear has been put to good use in our Skate Schools. Check out our recent blog on making new things from old decks.

Shop to Donate: Skateistan Summer Collection 2019

The Skateistan Summer 2019 Collection combines our love of skateboarding with rad illustrations. A contemporary illustrator named Cynthia Kittler created all of the designs, and we were stoked to be able to learn more about her in an interview.
