Slain mother 'did not deserve this'

BY DOUG GRAHAM | Staff writer

Friends and family who gathered Wednesday afternoon to honor Kerisha Johnson recalled a mother who worked multiple jobs and loved blue because she saw it as a color of peace.

The 36-year-old Johnson and her unborn child were killed Sunday as she pulled up in her car to pick up people from a party, police have said.

Three men have been charged in the deaths.

Here is the latest.

The shooting deaths of two men Tuesday in Baton Rouge, including a rapper who went by Teflon Webbie and wetheblock, led to calls on social media for violence among rival rap groups to stop.

Witnesses told deputies that the two got into an argument that ended with them firing shots at each other, a sheriff's spokesperson said.

Rappers "are getting killed, before they get a chance to get out," the narrator of one YouTube video said.

A $25 million, 99-unit low-income senior complex could help ease the affordable housing gap in the area. The development includes outdoor areas, community rooms, a gym and a wellness center for health-care providers.

The four-story Cypress Pinchback, 501 Gardere Lane, opened its doors this month to people 62 and older. Officials said the complex's construction also should aid in attracting businesses and developers to the area.
