Jacob Gibbs is out today but he'll be back soon. With that said, I'm Brandon Howard, editor at Fantasy Sports and I'll be handling today's newsletter.
If your Fantasy Football draft is right around the corner and you're in need of Fantasy insight that considers the latest news around the league, then you've come to the right place. Our FFT team has put together a series of articles to help Fantasy managers make informed decisions on draft day.
Heath Cummings and Dave Richard put together their positional tiers for quarterback, running back, wide receiver, and tight end, while Jamey Eisenberg completed multiple mock draft recaps that highlight various drafting strategies. Jamey also finalized his sleepers, breakouts, and busts, columns this week, which should give all draft participants a healthy helping of players to be leery of as well as optimistic about this upcoming season. It doesn't stop with Jamey, be on the lookout for Dave and Heath's sleepers, breakouts, and busts columns as well.
In addition to the Fantasy insight, Dave was able to attend Commanders-Dolphins joint practices and has some interesting thoughts on just how good Commanders quarterback  Jayden Daniels  can be in his rookie year. And last but certainly not least, Megan Shoup provided her latest Best Ball rankings update and suggests an unheralded quarterback worth considering in drafts following J.J. McCarthy's season-ending knee injury.
Get prepared for your next draft with all the latest Fantasy news and updates from our FFT through the articles listed below.
Dave Richard's tiers
QB | RB | WR |  TE
Dave's QB tiers feature the usual suspects at the top but after Jalen HurtsPatrick MahomesJosh Allen, and Lamar Jackson in Tier 1, there are two fairly young quarterbacks listed in Tier 2, that were somewhat of a surprise.  Joe Burrow most certainly belongs but  C.J. Stroud and Anthony Richardson are just in their second year and have much to prove, but provided they stay healthy, I can certainly see them outpacing their ADP.
In his RB tiers, Dave has Derrick Henry slotted as a Tier 2 back, which I believe is fitting. Despite being 30 years old, Henry should see wide rushing lanes while paired with Lamar Jackson in Baltimore. This will give him a free runway into opposing secondaries and we all know, once he's into the second level of the defense, he's extremely hard to stop.
Dave highlights the importance of knowing where the drop-off is at wide receiver in his WR tiers and it's clear that it begins roughly around Tier 6. One receiver ranking that certainly stands out is Brandon Aiyuk . While it's still up in the air where he'll play next season, Dave has him listed at the top of Tier 3, and I certainly agree. Despite the uncertainty surrounding which helmet he'll wear next season, his talent suggests he's deserving of where he's listed. Dave's tight end tiers underscore, just how much talent exists throughout this year's crop of tight ends, and from what I gather, there's not much of a need to reach for one early. All the way through Tier 4, tight ends like  Brock BowersJake FergusonDavid Njoku, and  Pat Freiermuth can be had. One of my favorites is Luke Musgrave who could have a breakout year if healthy, and he's not even listed. Moral of the story: Don't be afraid to wait on tight end, a good one can be had in the later rounds.
Heath Cummings' tiers
QB | RB | WR |  TE
It's not going to be the first time you hear the name in this newsletter but Jayden Daniels is shooting up rankings lists and understandably so. Heath has him listed in Tier 3 and understandably so. He's got an understanding of defenses that most rookie quarterbacks don't have and he's extremely mobile. Additionally, he's got plenty of weapons and should have an outstanding year as long as he stays healthy. I've taken Daniels as a reserve option in nearly all of my drafts but I wouldn't be shocked to see his value rise even more throughout the preseason.
We were all holding our collective breath when Jahmyr Gibbs came down with a reported leg issue but it turns out it was a hamstring injury. While the hamstring diagnosis is much more comforting than a knee injury, it still caused him to drop to Tier 4 in Heath's latest running back rankings, despite his Tier 2 talent. Given his latest injury, backs like  De'Von Achane and Alvin Kamara are seeing a surge in popularity. Don't be surprised to see Achane fly off the board in the Round 2 range.
In Heath's WR rankingsMarvin Harrison Jr. Check in at Tier 3, which makes a ton of sense to me. He's doing well with separating at the top of his routes and while I was skeptical about his ability to beat the jam, it seems he's put a lot of work into that area of his game. If he can win early in his routes as a rookie, that could bode well for him having an excellent rookie year.
As talked about earlier, there's a wealth of talent at tight end, and Kyle Pitts is certainly one of those talents. We've been waiting for him to have a breakout season and this may very well be the year. In Heath's TE tiers, he has Pitts listed ahead of Dalton Kincaid and I agree with that assessment . Now that Pitts is in an offense that consistently features the tight end, and is paired with a quarterback that wants to get the most out of him, he'll likely be more productive than he has been in previous years.
Jamey Eisenberg's sleepers, breakouts, busts
One of the players who stood out to me in Jamey's sleepers list is wide receiver Curtis Samuel. Samuel had his best seasons in Carolina with offensive coordinator Joe Brady and he'll once again team up with Brady in Buffalo. Brady knows exactly how to utilize Samuel, and that's by lining him up all over the field and on misdirection plays out of the backfield. While many are expecting rookie wide receiver  Keon Coleman  to pick up the majority of vacant targets left behind by Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis, don't be surprised if Samuel has a breakout year in Buffalo.
There are two wide receivers listed in Jamey's breakouts that I believe are primed for big seasons and that's Jaxon Smith-Njigba and  Jameson Williams . Both have ADPs over 100 and could outperform that number considerably. Smith-Njigba has tremendous lateral quickness. He sees the game through the eyes of his quarterback and reads leverage on the fly exceptionally well. This trait will lead to him getting targeted early and often this season. Jameson Williams is the true definition of a deep threat. With the emergence of Amon-Ra St. Brown, he's going to be left one-on-one a lot this year. If there's no safety over the top, there aren't going to be too many corners capable of running with him stride-for-stride down the field.
Jamey Eisenberg's busts include some surprise players who have valid concerns heading into the 2024 season. One of the more surprising players on the list is Christian McCaffrey. McCaffrey was one of the more consistently productive players in Fantasy a season ago but he'll likely be without star left tackle  Trent Williams to start the season and he's had injury concerns in past seasons. So when you factor in that he is an aging running back behind an offensive line missing one of its star players, Jamey is right to issue a warning to those who are considering taking him at the top of their next Fantasy draft.
Mock drafts
Our FFT team participated in a variety of mock drafts over the last two weeks. My favorite was our most recent 12-team PPR mock draft in which Jake Grogins drafted running back with his first three picks. With those picks, he netted Christian McCaffrey, James Cook, and De'Von Achane. Not too shabby huh? Be sure to check out the full results of our most recent 12-team PPR mock draft here . For more mock drafts, be sure to check out the content listed below.
As promised, we're back to heaping praise on Jayden Daniels and how he's looked since the start of training camp. Dave Richard was able to attend the Commanders-Dolphins joint practice and came away amazed by Daniels' accuracy and ability to avoid pressure. While the potential for injury is often mentioned when Daniels is being discussed, Commanders running back Austin Ekeler said, "If he's protecting himself and playing smart, then he'll be fine…" Following what he saw during joint practice, Dave is sold on his upside and believes he'll be a must-start player very soon.
Megan Shoup believes that now is the time to invest more in Sam Darnold in Best Ball. Following J.J. McCarthy's season-ending knee surgery, it's apparent that Darnold will be QB1 this season in Minnesota. Darnold has always had the tools, to be a successful NFL  quarterback but his decision-making has always been suboptimal. If he can play less hurried and get the ball into the hands of the weapons around him this season, he could have a very good year. As it stands, Megan has moved Darnold up to 195 in her rankings.
