Technostress needs to be managed

Personality traits sometimes dictate how well a person manages the stress that can come from feeling constantly connected to technology. A recent study found conscientiousness, which is a trait most employers value in employees, can increase an employee's chance of experiencing technostress. The study also looked at how working from home during the pandemic has shifted the behavior of introverts and pseudo-extroverts.

A group of CEOs from top US companies are backing nonprofit startup OneTen, which will work with companies to create "family-sustaining jobs" for Black Americans who don't have four-year college degrees. More than 30 CEOs -- including from Nike, Merck and IBM -- have pledged to hire workers who receive training in hopes of filling out middle management.

The week ending Dec. 5 saw first-time unemployment claims of 853,000, up slightly from the previous week's 716,000 claims, according to the Labor Department. "This recent surge suggests that claims are not just stagnating, they're actively worsening," said economist Daniel Zhao of Glassdoor.
