UP FIRST Apple Watch could get two amazing features next year It's been working on the features for years but it appears that they're just about ready The latest Apple smartwatches already offer a number of health features such as heart rate measurement, AFib detection, and ECG readings, but a Bloomberg report suggests Apple may add two new standout features as early as next year. The first is a sensor capable of detecting when a person’s blood pressure is elevated. According to the report, it won’t show the precise systolic and diastolic blood pressure values, though a future iteration, possibly in 2025, will have such a capability. The other feature is designed to detect sleep apnea, a potentially serious sleep disorder. If the smartwatch detects either condition, a notification will suggest a visit to the doctor ...

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AI helps to nudge the final Beatles track over the line The song, together with a video made by director Peter Jackson, will be released on at 10 a.m. ET on Thursday A song recorded by John Lennon on a cassette tape in his New York City apartment in the 1970s, and which later had instruments added by Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr, is being released today as the last-ever Beatles track. Now and Then was made possible by deploying the same AI technology that was used to enhance the audio on Peter Jackson’s 2021 Beatles documentary Get Back. McCartney, Harrison, and Starr attempted to complete the song in the 1990s, but technological limitations made it hard to isolate Lennon’s voice. In the run-up to today’s release, McCartney has been keen to point out that “nothing has been artificially or synthetically created. It’s all real and we all play on it.” A short film telling the story of the making of Now and Then was also released today.

MUSIC STREAMING Apple Music quietly retires one of its subscription plans It's not clear why Apple has ended it, though it's possible that few people signed up Apple is retiring its Voice plan for Apple Music that lets people use Siri to select tracks for $5 a month -- less than half the cost of the regular plan. The tech giant introduced its most affordable Apple Music plan in 2021 but on Wednesday announced that it’s ending sign-ups with immediate effect. Apple is encouraging those on the Voice plan to switch to either the Individual, Student, or Family tier, or to consider signing up to Apple One, a bundle that includes Apple Music, Apple TV+, and more. The Siri-powered Voice tier was useful for those who mainly listened to music in their car or on a HomePod and just call out the tracks, though the service doesn’t offer lyrics, music videos, playlist creation, or Spatial Audio for a better listening experience ...

OPINION by Andy Boxall How a tiny, fun phone changed my mind about foldables Find out why the Galaxy Z Flip 5 hits the spot ... mostly That’s it: the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 has completely changed the way I feel about foldable smartphones. When the phone was released, its advances over the Galaxy Z Flip 4 prompted me to buy it instead of upgrading my Galaxy Z Fold 4 to a Galaxy Z Fold 5, and now having returned to it after several months, I know I made the right decision. Here’s why. I liked the Galaxy Z Fold 5 when I reviewed it, and I liked the Google Pixel Fold too. But neither one really grabbed me, as they aren’t all that different from what came before or what’s out there in the non-foldable space, tech and ability-wise. The Z Fold 5 is suitably different from the Z Fold 4 if you’re a newcomer and still a brilliant buy if you want it, but there’s no strong reason to upgrade from an older model ...
