March 7, 2015, Xintiandi: A piece of Detroit in the middle of Shanghai, Cadillac blurred the lines between contemporary art and advertising with their new installation / selfie-factory. It's probably the cleanest fishtank in Shanghai.

Zootopia

Disney's new animated classic Zootopia is next-level and you should go see it in the theater. The story of a rabbit detective, her sly fox street hustler partner, and a criminal conspiracy already broke Frozen's record as the biggest Disney animation debut and it's got a 99% on Rotten Tomatos. It's full of great dialogue, animation, social commentary, and jokes that work for adults and kids. Celebrating diversity without ever seeming preachy, the film is even better than last year's acclaimed Inside Out. Tickets are going for as low as 38rmb for 3D on Gewara.

Downstate's s l o w ` m o t i o n . w a v e

One of Shanghai's most prolific producers, Downstate, just dropped a dark new album of trap, witch house, hip hop, and etherial beats. Haunting and beautiful, Downstate made these trax during a low point: "here are some songs. i just want this out. i hate these songs in many ways. because the time i made this album was terrible." You can stream the album on Soundcloud and download it on Bandcamp for free (though you should throw dude a few RMBs if you can).

Big New Contemporary Art Show At K11

One of the best art shows in town is in a mall basement, and it's way better than that Dali retrospective that recently finished there. K11's new one, We: A Community of Chinese Contemporary Artists features works by 57 artists, and it's basically a one-stop showcase of who's who in Chinese contemporary art, featuring everyone from Lu Yang and Cheng Ran to Zhang Enli and Zhang Peili. You'll find everything from trippy videos and snakeskin footballs to a mini-Yao Ming statue and a useless machine that turns 1rmb coins into 1rmb bills. It's on until May 2 -- go spend an afternoon down there.
