Snapchat Spotlight Has Already Amassed 100 Million Users

Snapchat’s big news in its earnings was that it has 100 million users on Spotlight, its TikTok rival, where it’s shelling out $1 million a day to creators, Scott Nover reports. This is part of its push to build a sustained creator economy, an area that Scott will be digging into more closely over the next week or so, please get in touch at the email below with your thoughts.

There’s a question mark over how long Snapchat can sustain this level of pay-outs, especially when its ad momentum is slowing down due to brands like Mars pausing spend during January’s deadly insurrection. Another bump in the road, the grey rhino charging at the industry, is Apple’s changes to its mobile identifier, IDFA. How much of a problem this will be is still unknown, Snapchat said.

Pinterest added millions of users and reported $706 million in revenue for the fourth quarter of 2020, up 76% from the same period in 2019, David Cohen reports.

Go deeper into David’s piece, which outlines how healthy holiday demand worked in its favor. That’s not to say the platform didn’t have bumps in the road this year.

Before I go, check out Adweek’s Big Game coverage for everything you need to know before, during and after Sunday’s sporting event. It’s really very comprehensive.

Thanks for reading and have a great weekend!
