Hi there,
Turns out... many people care. About Google. And antitrust probes.
Mr. Scott Nover took a look at who the big players in this conversation are and broke it down for you, dear reader. This club has states attorneys, the attorney general and Congress looking into its business practices. The investigations are focused on two aspects of Google's business: its market dominance in search and its reach in the digital ad ecosystem.
We've said it before, we'll say it again: Google is said to take up 29.4% of U.S. ad revenue this year—that's at least according to eMarketer. Take a look at Nover's full breakdown of who is doing the most in pursuit of Google.
Separately: we've got a big (virtual) event coming up, called Brandweek. Last year, we had Chrissy Teigen join us. Word on the block is that the guy who plays Deadpool will be there this year.
If you are mildly or mediumly or even hotly interested... Adweek is offering up a 20% discount if you sign up before the end of Wednesday. Use special code "DIGEDIT" to get the bargain. If I get at least 10 of you to sign up, Ronan Shields will get us an office pet.*
*This is not true. But you can read Shields' newsletter (all about programmatic advertising) here.
What else we're covering:
Fun Fact: Old Navy will pay employees to work the polls on Election Day.
Need a break? Please remember what it's like to fall in love with a stranger without ever seeing their face (that's how romance works, right?) by binge watching Love is Blind for free on Netflix.
Let me know who your favorite coupling is, and please do send any news tips to sara.jerde@adweek.com. Thanks for reading and see you here tomorrow!
