We have already seen the effects the coronavirus has had on our country and the economy in the last couple of weeks. It is magnified for me in a big way. I live in downtown Saint Petersburg, Fl and it is a short walk to the plethora of delicious eateries in town. On Beach Drive there is a 2 block strip that has at least 15 bars, restaurants and shoppes that are usually packed like the the streets of New York most every night, and all day on the weekends.
Now there is no one there because all the places are closed and all of the employees have no jobs. This hits home even further as my daughter had to let 10 employees go in the gelato shoppe she manages. Most of these people will have a hard time finding something else to do, and hopefully there will be relief for them soon.
This is happening all over the country and will deal a staggering blow to many of our diabetes patients. This week our intern Chardae Whitner, 2020 PharmD. Candidate, Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, takes a closer look at how these sudden financial hardships can quickly turn good diabetes care totally around.
