Dear John Do,
The German economy is forecast to lose EUR 49 billion in production capacity this year due to a lack of skilled labourers, according to the German Economic Institute (IW). Although Hamburg is better placed than other German states in terms of skilled labourers, action is urgently needed, says Michael Berlemann, Director of the Hamburg Institute of International Economics (HWWI), who outlines possible solutions to the crisis.

In other news, driverless shuttles will hit roads across the city from mid-2025, Hamburg Chamber of Commerce at COP29 and infectious diseases are to be contained in the port and airport in future.
