Airshow funding: NSW Deputy Premier Paul Toole was in the Upper Hunter this week visiting Singleton, Branxton and Cessnock. One of the big announcements he made was $193,000 for the Hunter Valley Airshow. It'll mean the event in March is bigger and better than ever. It's early in 2023 and already we're seeing plenty of NSW politicians visit the Hunter ahead of the March election. Speaking of which ... Medowie school plans: Depending on the outcome of this year's NSW election there could be a new public high school in Medowie in four years. NSW Labor says it will build a new school if it wins in March. The new school would cost $53 million and cater for up to 600 students, with the capability to expand. Hope for NuCoal compensation: The mining company says the acquittal of John Maitland strengthens the case for compensation from the NSW government for its shareholders. The NuCoal share price tanked in 2013 when then-premier Barry O'Farrell successfully passed a bill to allow the government to seize the licence, after an ICAC investigation into Mr Maitland. Fire station upgrades: Merewether, Singleton and The Entrance will be some of the first NSW fire stations to receive upgrades aimed at supporting female firefighters. The $50-million NSW government spend will be used for new toilets, showers and change rooms. Matildas coming to Newy: Pull out your green and gold, the Matildas will play Jamaica at Hunter Stadium on February 22. Matilda's player Kyah Simon says the players will be just as excited as the fans to play in Newcastle as part of the Cup of Nations soccer tournament. | Visit our website for more local news |
