AI-powered Gemini Live lands for millions of Android users — for free

Think of Gemini Live as your new digital best friend on your mobile device

Google has now made Gemini Live, its voice-based AI chatbot feature, available for free to all Android users.

“We're starting to roll out Gemini Live in English to more people using the Android app, free of charge,” the tech giant said in a recent social media post, adding: “Go Live to talk things out with Gemini, explore a new topic, or brainstorm ideas. Keep an eye out for Gemini Live in the Gemini app.”

You can access Gemini Live by tapping a new waveform icon in the bottom-right corner of the app or overlay, according to Ars Technica, but be patient if it’s not yet showing as it seems to be a phased rollout ...

This exclusive DT deal on Mysterium VPN saves you big time on a decentralized VPN

In the interest of your own privacy and safety, you should absolutely spring for a premium VPN. The question is which one do you use and what’s the difference between them? A decentralized VPN like Mysterium VPN is one of your best options. A decentralized VPN is far superior to a traditional VPN because the remote servers you connect to are not on a centrally controlled network of servers in a managed data center. Instead, you’re connecting peer-to-peer, further increasing your privacy and security. And the best part, Mysterium VPN’s plans are reasonably priced and affordable ...

Apple's iOS 18 for the iPhone is available today

There are plenty of new features to enjoy, though the AI smarts aren’t coming just yet

It’s finally here. And yes, iOS 18 is a major update to the iPhone’s operating system, primarily because it paves the way for Apple Intelligence, which heads to the latest iPhones in October.

But there’s still plenty of stuff to check out now, including new customization options that let you move apps into any space (and leave gaps) on the home screen, and a lock screen that finally lets you change the two controls at the bottom. You can also banish app labels for larger icons, and protect any app with Face ID (or Touch ID on the SE).

The Control Center gets a makeover, too, and the Photos app gets a revamp ...

Samsung The Premiere 9 ultra short throw projector review

'Bright, beautiful images, and big sound'

In its hands-on review of Samsung’s Premiere 9 projector, TechRadar praised it for its big, bright images with vibrant colors, as well as its excellent sound quality. But downsides included the lack of built-in tuners and Dolby Vision support.

Overall, it considered the Premiere 9 projector a “capable beamer [that’s] a convenient and affordable alternative to king-sized TVs.”

But it doesn’t come cheap. The Premiere 9 sits at the top of Samsung’s range of laser-powered ultra short throw (UST) 4K HDR projectors and will set you back a cool $6,000. If you’d like something similar but easier on the wallet, the Premiere 7 will be out in October, or take a look at these ...

It's a big night for Shōgun at the Emmys

The period epic became the first non-English language series to bag the Emmy award for best drama

Shōgun dominated the Emmys on Sunday night with 18 wins, including for best drama series, best lead actor (Hiroyuki Sanada), and best lead actress (Anna Sawai).

Jeremy Allen White and Ebon Moss-Bachrach of The Bear picked up awards for best lead actor and supporting actor in a comedy, and co-star Colón-Zayas also won her first Emmy for best supporting actress, Variety reported. The show also broke its own record of 10 comedy wins for a single season, picking up 11 this time around.

Netflix’s viral hit Baby Reindeer won outstanding limited series or anthology, with creator Richard Gadd collecting awards for best lead actor and best writing. His co-star Jessica Gunning, who played Martha, won best supporting actress ...

Acer is ‘not optimistic’ about the future of handheld gaming

And that's despite it joining its rivals in the handheld PC gaming space with the launch of the Nitro Blaze 7

Speaking to Digital Trends at last week’s IFA tech show in Germany, Acer chief operating officer Jerry Kao said of gaming handhelds: “We do not believe it’s a big market. But when people think about gaming, Acer is one of their choices, so we shouldn’t be absent. But do we think there will be a big success? My personal opinion up until now is not so optimistic.”

Kao pinpointed pricing as a major factor. The Steam Deck launched the category at such a low price point that it made scaling up from there very difficult, and Kao noted that even the ROG Ally had to drop its price to compete. As for the price of Acer’s Nitro Blaze 7 — well, that’s yet to be announced ...
