Did we ever share the story of the day that Hilary Bradt met Queen Elizabeth II?
It was to receive her MBE, not only for services to the tourism industry but to charity as well. That's something that Hilary is a little uncomfortable about, to be honest.
As she says, "So many people work their socks off for charity and don’t get recognition."
However, we at Bradt are not uncomfortable about it at all. We know, for example, that she's still a patron for Money for Madagascar, a charity which works with local Malagasy organisations to alleviate the effects of poverty in one of the poorest countries on earth.
Hilary also worked in Madagascar for years and so it's no surprise that the once-in-a-lifetime charity auction taking place at Bradt's 50th event next week will be in aid of Money for Madagascar.
Yes. I know I've been talking about this event a lot (it's not too late to get your ticket, by the way) but we have something for you even if you can't come.
Second, we're launching a "Happy 50th" sale. And you certainly don't need to be there on the night to make the most of that.
We're offering you the chance to buy one book and get another half price with code ANNIVERSARY50. To apply your discount, simply enter the code at checkout.
We would still love to see you there. We're getting close to maximum numbers now - and once we sell out, The Royal Geographical Society will not allow us to add more spaces.
PS - Not interested at all in this event but want to stay on our list for other emails? No problem. Just click here and we'll make a note of it. You'll know it's worked because you'll be whisked away to a lucky dip piece of travel writing.
