It's been a busy week! So, without delay, let's get right to our weekly round-up of everything interesting, novel and curious happening in the world of cameras. This week, the DPReview editors published a Sony a9 III review in progress; we added the Nikon Zf to our studio scene comparison tool, kept an eye on CES for any surprises and published a lens sample gallery on the same day the lens was announced. And that's just scratching the surface. Like I said, it's been a busy week! — Shaminder

| Sony a9 III review in progress The Sony a9 III is the world's first full-frame mirrorless camera to feature a global electronic shutter with simultaneous readout. We've been using a full production version of this 120 fps sports camera, to see what you gain (and, perhaps, lose). |

| Nikon Zf added to studio scene As part of completing our Nikon Zf review, we've run the camera through our standard test scene, to see how it performs. |

Panasonic Lumix S 100mm F2.8 Macro sample gallery Panasonic's Lumix S 100mm F2.8 Macro is a full-frame L-mount lens that's designed to be a medium telephoto, portrait and macro lens all-in-one. We took to the streets for some portraits and shot a few macro photos for this first installment in our sample gallery. |

Further Reading Last week, we asked you what you thought about global shutter and if you planned to buy the Sony a9 III. The responses were split between people excited to try the new camera and others thinking it better to wait.
DPReview reader's on global shutter: "It may be a sports photographers dream but it's way beyond a simple A9II upgrade and way out of my price range. I shoot aviation and wildlife so I was hoping for a warmed up A9II with added AF features like the bird/animal eye recognition on the A7RV and maybe a step up to 35mp or so to be nearer to the Nikon Z8." "YES!!! I wish I could afford it and I would have had it in my drawer since yesterday. It is time for companies to wake up from their slumber or self-admiration and try new ideas and techniques for their products." "I won't be buying it, maybe in a few years when there's a9 IV." "The real target audience for this camera will recognize breakthrough and real advancements in certain areas of photo and video." "This is not a camera for me. The only interesting feature is the flash sync speed for me. But it's a tool for those who needs it and Sony produced it."Thanks everyone for sharing with us. Here's our next question of the week: What are your 2024 predictions? In the article below, I share some best guesses for what I think we'll see in 2024. Do you agree with any, or do you think I missed some? Drop me a line and let me know: What do you think we'll see in 2024? |
