Gift Of the Givers Makes South Africa Proud, Aiding Ukrainians with Food and Medical Supplies
With the ongoing unrest in the Ukraine due to the devastating Russian Invasion, The Gift of the Givers has sprung into disaster management mode, working with South Africans on the ground, and various organisations to support repatriation efforts, deliver essential items and medical equipment to those in desperate need.
The initiative came to life at short notice, through various messages The Gift of The Givers received during the first days of the attack.
The first was a South African man, who managed to escape from Kyiv with his wife, who is from Ukraine, when the bombing intensified.

Thobile Maphanga, a dance practitioner, producer, creative collaborator, and writer from Clermont, Durban, has been invited to represent South Africa at the prestigious Atelier for Young Festival Managers in Canada in June 2022.
The Festival Academy offers professional development and leadership training to festival makers globally as an initiative of the European Festivals Association (EFA).
Thobile will be one of only 35 participants globally to attend this amazing opportunity.

This coming Saturday marks exactly 76 years since Winston Churchill made his ‘iron curtain’ speech. On 5 March 1946, visiting Fulton in Missouri as a guest of President Harry Truman, he famously said ‘… from Stettin in the Baltic to Trieste in the Adriatic, an iron curtain has descended across Europe.’
At the time, he was dismissed by some as a ‘war monger,’ but his observation was proven unambiguously correct. The iron curtain era came to an end in November 1989 with the fall of the Berlin Wall, which triggered consequences for the whole world, including South Africa, where it contributed substantially to the transition to democracy.

South Africa grows number of women business owners.
South Africa is one of only 12 economies where women’s entrepreneurial activity rates increased, with 11.1% of working-age women engaged in early-stage entrepreneurial activities
Despite the gender gap and the impact of the covid-19 pandemic, women in South Africa are making progress as entrepreneurs, indicating a strong will and determination to survive. This is according to the latest Mastercard Index of Women Entrepreneurs Index (MIWE), announced on the side-lines of the annual 2022 FORBES WOMAN AFRICA Leading Women Summit presented by Mastercard.
