By Steuart Pennington Global Competitiveness is an important issue – it is a measure of how the World Economic Forum positions a country in terms of its ‘competitiveness’ as a global investment destination. This year, and every year, the World Economic Forum (WEF) measures 138 countries on 12 ‘pillars’ of competitiveness (see diagram 2 below). There are 235 countries in the world, only 80 have a population of more than 10 million. There is insufficient data on the remaining 97 countries for them to form part of the WEF’s competitiveness exercise. One degree at a Time Financially strapped students from the Valley of 1000 Hills are being given a lifeline to a better future and the opportunity to break out of the cycle of poverty thanks to a Hillcrest based NPO.The Hillcrest Advice Bureau and Bursary Fund (HABandBF) is an inspiring KwaZulu-Natal based NPO providing underprivileged and impoverished students, wanting to attend university, with the opportunity to do so.
