Our Story

Once upon a time there was a country on the southern tip of Africa, where it’s people called themselves Proudly South African.

• Against all odds they had silenced the nay-sayers and peacefully ushered in democracy for all.
• Their nuclear arsenal had been voluntarily disarmed,
• Their rugby team had won the World Cup and the soccer team the African Cup of Nations.
• Grief and forgiveness happened at the Truth and Reconciliation Commission
• Big Business had shed 25% of their equity to create a Black middle class.
• And the Founding Father of the Nation voluntarily handed over power after but one term in office.

Playing it Forward
 or Food Forward?

FOOD FORWARD – A SECOND HARVEST INITIATIVE

50% of edible agricultural production is wasted due to specification requirements, cold-chain and processing inadequacies as well as access to markets.
This nutritious food goes to waste while 14 million South Africans go hungry every day. FoodForward SA is launching Second Harvest, a programme that sources and collects surplus fruit and vegetables from commercial farmers across South Africa and redistributes this fresh produce to the 600 beneficiary organisations in their network.

Pass barrier

For the first time, the Department of Basic Education has published a full breakdown on subject pass levels in its 2017 School Subject Report. 
While there are some specific pass conditions for subjects such as Home Language, First Additional Language and Mathematics, at South Africa’s current ‘elementary pass’ barrier of 30%, the 2017 matric class passed with a rate of 75.1%. If the pass barrier was 40%, the pass rate would drop to around 54%, and If the pass barrier was 50%, the pass rate would drop to around 33%.
