Friday, 5 October 2018 marks the annual United Nations’ (UN) World Teachers’ Day to celebrate one of the world’s most critical professions, teaching.
Ahead of this important occasion, Dr Naresh Veeran, Chief Commercial Officer at the Embury Institute for Higher Education suggests that teachers need to be learners too. UNESCO’s theme for the 2018 commemoration is “the right to education means the right to a qualified teacher”, and Veeran argues that qualification doesn’t end with achieving a teacher’s degree or diploma.

IT’S IN YOUR HANDS # 3
“Primum non nocere” is a Latin phrase that means “first, do no harm.” Apparently, all medical students are taught this fundamental principle and it basically means that when faced with a problem, it may be better to do nothing, than to risk causing more harm than good.
It may strike you that this is rather negative. If the whole world – when faced with an issue – did nothing for fear of causing more harm, then presumably nothing would ever get resolved. But, that is not the power of this maxim. Its potency lies in the somewhat un-Western notion of stillness, silence, non-doing when action or words would simply fan the flames of trouble and strife.

Commonwealth Fly Fishing Championship 2018
The Commonwealth Fly Fishing Championship is as much about fun as it is about winning. With that said no one can prepare you for the nerves as you step onto the bus for the first time with 20 other anglers all ready and wanting to beat you.
In this international format competitors compete over 3 days in 5 fishing sessions. Each angler is split into a group which has an angler from every country competing. The Northern Ireland setup saw all competitors fishing two rivers sessions and three lake sessions. The goal as an angler is to finish as high as you possibly can in your group by catching the most fish in the allotted three hours per session.

Unquenchable Thirst
According to a statistical update from the World Health Organization, pure alcohol consumption in South Africa was at 11.5 litres per capita per year in 2015. This pushes South Africa up to the third biggest drinking nation in Africa and the 19th biggest drinking nation in the world.
