© 2018 South Africa - The Good News No Images? Click here THANK YOU THULI By Justin Foxton Last week, Professor Thuli Madonsela – patron of our NGO The Peace Agency – spoke at our annual fundraising ball. From everyone who was there, it was an exceptional night and Thuli Madonsela contributed in no small way to this success. A great deal has been written by many – me included – about Thuli Madonsela. But after this night, I wanted to put out a couple of thoughts on what I feel makes this woman so special. The reason for this is two-fold: In terms of the purpose of this column it is to give us ideas of how each of us can respond to our President’s call to Thuma Mina – Send Me. Secondly, it is to honour and publicly pay tribute to an exceptional servant of the Republic. Flush Forum Makes School Sanitation Top Priority this World Toilet Day Johannesburg, November 20, 2018 – On 19 November, Unilever gathered stakeholders from government, private enterprise, NGO’s and media to commemorate World Toilet Day at a first of its kind sanitation event. The Flush Forum, hosted by Unilever’s toilet hygiene brand, Domestos. aimed to heed the President’s call for collective action to help solve the country’s school sanitation crisis. This event follows a breakfast in August where President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the SAFE (Sanitation Appropriate For Education) Initiative, which has since received support from various local and international corporations and organisations. Right now, 4.5 billion people in the world are living without proper sanitation and 892 million people are still practising open defecation. Established in 2012 by the UN, World Toilet Day encourages people across the globe to support actions that will ensure that all people have access to safe, hygienic toilet by 2030. (ISFAP) – what does it do? Who is in charge? ISFAP has identified that the needs of the economy require certain critical skills if the country is to achieve higher rates of economic growth to reduce the triple challenges of poverty, unemployment and inequality. ISFAP Chairman Sizwe Nxasana reminded everyone in attendance what ISFAP is all about. “ISFAP is an enabler for young people to reach their fullest potential by helping them acquire the skills they need to be geared up for the 21st and 22nd Centuries and the 4th and 5th Industrial Revolutions,” says Nxasana. “Not only that, but we assist corporate South Africa in the private and public sector to get the best candidates that can carry their vision in those companies for the years to come.” Shopping spree According to a Black Friday Global survey, South Africa experiences a 2,571% surge in the number of transactions on Black Friday each year when compared to a regular day. Even though the average discount across SA online stores reached 61% in 2017, the average South African bargain hunter is only willing to pay R1,654 ($126) in total for his/her Black Friday shopping cart. That is $68 more than Nigerian consumers, and $50 more than Kenyans. (http://bit.ly/2Regx2S) Source www.Eighty20.co.za
