WHO ELSE IS IN THE ‘AGRIZZED’ FIRING LINE AS ANGELO AGRIZZI BRAVELY TESTIFIES?
HOW WILL RAMAPHOSA REACT?

By Steuart Pennington

Former Bosasa COO Angelo Agrizzi has everyone talking after his testimony at the state capture commission, and in typical Mzansi style, Agrizzi catch phrases have taken over the internet.

The term “agrizzed” has now become a social media favourite when discussing the Zondo commission and unrelated situations.

A number of questions become very pertinent?

How will the NPA respond? What kind of charges will be laid? How many of the recipients of these bribes will be found guilty and have time in jail?

Will President Ramaphosa, in his quest to assure investors that South Africa is dealing with corruption in a non-negotiable ironfisted manner, pronounce on how those fingered should be dealt with.

THIS WEEK'S FAST FACT

GIVING

Almost nine in 10 South Africans did something charitable last year, says latest research

Key findings of the research include:

80% of those surveyed have given money in the past 12 months; either to a non-profit or charity, to a church or religious organisation, or by sponsoring someone

  • The most popular cause to give money to is helping the poor (55% of donors); the most popular cause to volunteer for is with religious organisations (44% of volunteers)
  • In total, 66% of people have volunteered in the past 12 months; that’s up from 61% the year before
  • In addition to volunteering, two thirds of people have taken part in a civic activity in the past 12 months; in particular signing a petition and taking part in a local consultation
  • Giving using cash is by far the most common method of donation for South Africans; 73% donate using this method

The report also shines a light on the youngest generation of South Africans and how they interact with civil society, with 18-24 year olds significantly more likely than average to say that they donate to make a difference (64% vs. 56% overall)
