About 120 Chifley homes had been damaged by a six million-litre water deluge on this day in 1994. A burst water main impacted three streets in the suburb, resulting in flooded basements and garages, buckled gates and fences, ripped up pavements, and debris dumped in backyards. A story on the front page of The Canberra Times reported the former ACTEW Corporation would not take responsibility for the damage.
